Graphics

In high school, a brief interest in a career in graphics led me to pursue vocational training in Print Production & Graphic Design. Though ultimately not the career for me, the training I received in the Adobe Creative Suite led me to find a niche passion within my work, most commonly in the form of paper props!

Below are sample of favorite graphic design & paper prop work from selected productions, as well as outside work and class projects. Please click on each image to view them in detail. I’ve included source and inspiration images, below each project’s description.

Photo Manipulation/Faux Painting for Blue Man Group

Utilizing a stock image as a base, this Jello still life was created in ProCreate with a selection of blurring and overlay brushes to warp, smooth and add painterly strokes.

Part of the image was then erased to create the illusion of it still being a (totally nonsensical) work in progress. Once printed, the image was applied to a canvas with spray adhesive & Mod Podge, actual acrylic craft paint was added to the background and bottom to further blend, and then the entire piece was treated with a layer of Crystal Gel to add the distinctive dimension of an oil painting. The result? An homage to a favorite Blue Man Group show prop, created in the likeness of a Bob Ross piece for a special video appearance with “The Joy of Bob Ross” Happy Little Podcast.

Commission for the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce

An excerpt of a letter to the Wright Brothers, this piece was a commissioned as a gift to an aviation company who’d, fittingly, also decided to bring their operations to North Carolina. Text created and formatted in Illustrator, applied using heat-transfer ink and heat press with craft acrylics for aging. Final photo is assembled piece at its presentation.

The Hummingbird Hotel Brochure

Created for UNCSA’s Airline Highway

An antiquated tri-fold brochure found in the motel’s main office, from the establishment’s heyday in the 50s.

Compilation of sourced images, seen below. Images edited & layout designed using Adobe Lightroom, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Specialty fonts courtesy of DaFont.

Humanoid Prototype Drafts

Created for Williamstown Theatre Festival’s The Chinese Room.

Drafts used for the set dressing of a lonely inventor’s disheveled living room-turned-office. The show’s central conceit revolved around his humanoid creations, and the blueprints scattered, rolled, and crumpled around his take-out boxes showed his early plans.

Images sourced from various schematics and patent diagrams. Edited and formatted in Adobe Photoshop. Key captions (arbitrarily) sourced & labeled from robotic and mechanic forums.

Roadcase Tourist Stickers

Custom stickers fit for traveling theater troupe’s roadcase in UNCSA’s 2017 production of Ariadne auf Naxos. The director wanted to give the impression of travel… but stress that their subpar talents took them to lesser known cities. Stock images and clipart altered, and stickers designed in Adober Illustrator
