Blue Man Group

Blue Man Group

A proud member of the “Blue Man Crew” for 3.5 years, I served as the Props Supervisor and Chaos Coordinator (my unofficial title) for the bald-and-blue trio in NYC across over 1800 performances and 50 external engagements, appearances, and shoots. From blending an iPhone to gifting a sculpture to the United Nations HQ, no idea was too outlandish, no request too ridiculous, and no day was boring! My contributions to the company also took me (and my prop designs) to sister productions in Chicago, Las Vegas, Boston, and Orlando.

I am so proud to share a few favorite collaborations and developments below!

Canvas Work

What is Blue Man Group without their trademark chaotic artwork? In my time making (& cleaning up) the messes, I’m proud to have developed a few technologies to ease the creation of the many, MANY magical moments, especially the development of a freestanding cleanable canvas (seen, left) used, cleaned, and reused for up to 4 live painting a day, 7 days a week, as well as a variety of stencils, peelaway vinyl surprises, hydrophobic/resists, and hydrochromic treatments (all of the fun, none of the aftermath- water activated “magic” canvas reveal, without sacrificing color!).

As seen on CNN’s New Year’s Eve 2023, Live! with Kelly & Ryan, YAI Central Park Challenge 2024, NYC’s Youth Pride 2022 and 2023, and for the New York Production’s 16,000th, 17,000th, and final performance.

Small is Beautiful

A crossover with the iconic miniature museum, we hid multiple tiny “Blue Man Group” scenes throughout the exhibits as a scavenger hunt. All miniatures designed, painted, and staged by me (and my magnifying glass!)

The Holiday EP

Christmas in July! A massive creative undertaking of multiple shoot days, with full-length musical medleys & many mini social media teaser videos…. From a Rankin Bass countdown scene (left) to a neverending set of nesting wrapped gift boxes and a few dozen Blue Gingerbread Men, dozens of holiday props and special effects sourced, designed, and fabricated by me. You can even see my cat featured in the music video below!
